[Keynote] Improved Project Governance Using Agile and Measurement [09/11]

A keynote presentation at the 6th International Software Measurement and Analysis (ISMA) Conference.

Hosted by the International Function Point User Group (IFPUG), this conference will feature Kevin Aguanno as a keynote presenter on the topic of "Improved Project Governance Using Agile and Measurement."  The event runs from Sept. 11-14, 2011 at the Richmond Convention Center in Richmond, VA, USA.  Kevin Aguanno will be opening the day on Sept. 13 and will lead a follow-on discussion with the agile special interest group.

Abstract
As many of our largest organizations adopt agile management methods, we struggle with how to incorporate these techniques into our existing governance frameworks.  Executives are struggling with how to approve projects where the scope, timeline, and budget are unknown.  In many organizations, this significant hurdle blocks the adoption of agile methods.  Yet, there is an answer to this problem.  The agile community has learned to solve this dilemma and integrate agile into existing governance models -- including the ability to answer the key business question of "what am I going to get, when, and for how much?"  This presentation will ultimately show how to use both new and traditional metrics in innovative ways to create fixed price estimates (and contracts) for projects with unclear or emerging scopes.

Kevin Aguanno, PMP, IPMA-B, MAPM, Cert.APM is a certified executive project manager with over 20 years of experience managing software development and systems integration projects.  Author of over 20 books, audiobooks and DVDs on project management and agile methods, he is a noted researcher and speaker on these topics and is the past winner of the University of Toronto's Excellence in Teaching Award.
